Lens Features

1. PLASTIC LENSES
are made of conventional hard resin. It's a basic type of lens, and it is acceptable for lower power prescriptions.

2. POLYCARBONATE
(also know as Ultralight) lenses are the most impact-resistant and safest lenses available. They are lighter weight than Plastic lenses and they also absorb all harmful UV rays.

3. HIGH INDEX
(also know as Thin & Light 1.67) are the thinnest and flattest for the best looks have superior optical quality, are deal for fashionable rimless and drill mount frames, and are 100% UV blocking.

4. ASPHERIC LENSES
are designed to provide special visual and cosmetic benefits for stronger corrections. Flatter than conventional lenses, aspherics eliminate the "bulgy" appearance of strong plus lenses (far-sighted corrections) and improve the appearance of your glasses by creating less eye magnification than traditional farsighted corrections. Near-sighted persons also benefit from thinner lighter weight glasses when the lenses are aspheric. Aspheric lenses can even be ordered in High Index materials for the ultimate in attract vely thin lenses.

5. TRANSITIONS (Photochromic lenses)
These are lenses that darken as you go from indoors to outdoors, and then lighten back to clear when you come Inside. They are available in all types of lens materials, depending on your prescription power. These newer products change more quickly than the older generation ones, and get almost totally clear inside. Please note: because the photochromic lenses react only to UV light and not to visible light, there are circumstances under which the darkening will NOT occur. A perfect example of this is in your car. Because the window glass blocks out most UV light, photochromic lenses will not be dark enough to act as sunglasses while driving.

6. PROGRESSIVE (Example: Varilux, Kodak ...)

Our practice is especially good at fitting Progressive (or No-Line Bifocal) lenses. These lenses enable your eyes to make a smooth, natural adjustment when you change your focus from distant to intermediate to close vision. Unlike a traditional line-bifocal, the progressive lens allows a clear view at computer distance which we call intermediate vision. Our Premium Progressives have an increased field of vision, which reduces head movements both vertically and horizontally, allowing you to assume a more natural comfortable posture when viewing objects at close and intermediate ranges.

7. ANTI-REFLECTIVE
is a special coating that protects the lens against scratching, as well as eliminates the annoying glare that causes eye strain and fatigue. We use the TEFLON product because we believe it to be the best at resisting scratching, peeling and smudging. The latest Anti-Reflective coatings are much easier to clean than the older technology coatings.

8. POLARIZED
is a feature recommended for Sunglasses, since it is safer for driving. When driving mid-day the sun causes a reflection of the dashboard seen in the windshield. This is called "veiling glare" and can cause enough distraction to cause an accident. The Polarized feature in Sunglasses virtually eliminates the veiling glare, allowing a clear, unobstructed view out through the windshield. It's the safest way to drive during the day. This feature comes standard in all our Maui Jim Sunglasses, and can be ordered in Sunglasses in any frame.
